How Mindful Health Solutions is Offering Psychiatry in Newport Beach

TMS Health Solutions announced in September, 2020 that it would be changing its name to Mindful Health Solutions. The company is a leader in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and other types of evidence-based psychiatric treatments. Dr. Richard Bermudes founded Mindful Health Solutions in 2007 as a means of providing patients with an innovative system of care based on academic research. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brad Hummel said of the name change, “We are very excited about the introduction of our new company name, Mindful Health Solutions, because it allows us to better represent our care and treatment philosophy.”

Dr. Bermudes continually incorporates new treatments into his practice while educating the community about them. For example, Mindful Health Solutions recently added treatment modalities like electroconvulsive therapy and esketamine nasal spray. Dr. Brandes believes that the current trend towards combining medication and non-medication therapies is the best way for patients to achieve mental health. The name change supports the practice’s expanding line of services, as the term “mindful” emphasizes the patient-centric approach it has always had. Mindful Health Solutions will continue to move into the future while focusing on its patients.

Rebranding Strategy

The strong focus on innovation is one of the most obvious differentiating factors between Mindful Health Solutions and other behavior practices. In addition to the name change, Mindful Health Solutions also introduced the phrase “Innovative Psychiatry Services” as its new tagline in September. This phrase reinforces the practice’s history and continuing mission to provide its patients with the most advanced psychiatric services currently available. The company also introduced a new logo and website that prominently features its focus on providing accessible psychiatric services for its patients.

Mindful Health Solutions’s rebranding strategy reflects its evolution and vision. Dr. Brandes elaborated on the name change in the company’s press statement by saying, “over the past few years, we have developed a practice that we believe redefines the psychiatric outpatient experience.” He went on to add that he felt it was an appropriate time in the company’s growth for the rebranding. Dr. Brandes also said the word “mindful” encompasses his practice’s overall level of care and consideration for the patient.

TMS

TMS is a method of stimulating the brain that uses a magnetic field to generate an alternating electric current in a specific part of the brain through a phenomenon called electromagnetic induction. The primary components of the device used to perform TMS include an electric pulse generator and a magnetic coil.

An electric pulse generator, also known as a stimulator, connects to the magnetic coil, which is connected to the patient’s scalp. The stimulator generates an electrical current that induces a magnetic field in the coil. This field then induces a second electrical field within the brain that provides both diagnostic and therapeutic benefits for the central nervous system, backspace. Research is evolving rapidly in TMS, as researchers continue to conduct studies.

TMS is noninvasive, since it doesn’t require surgery or the implantation of electrodes. The effects primarily depend on the intensity and frequency of the electromagnetic pulses as well as the duration of the session. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States and The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in England have both approved TMS for the treatment of depression.

Clinicians can also use TMS to measure the function activity of specific neurological circuits, typically by using single or paired pulses. Measuring the connection between the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system’s primary motor cortex is the most common diagnostic use of TMS. The purpose of this procedure is to evaluate damage to the nervous system, including past and current injuries.

Telepsychiatry

Telepsychiatry appointments are available from Mindful Health Solutions for patients without a psychiatrist near you. These appointments allow patients to consult with clinicians through video conferencing technology without the risk of in-person visits. Patients can use video appointments to receive care when it’s impractical to travel to one of our clinics. Telepsychiatry also decreases the problems of missing and rescheduling appointments.

Patients can login to a session through any device with internet connectivity, including smartphones, desktop, laptops and tablets. The only other requirement is a private space free of interruptions. The staff at Mindful Health Solutions is knowledgeable about the technology required for telepsychiatry, so they can provide the necessary and support. They’re also available to answer questions before the first session.
